15/08/2024, Biter Lau-Fatuahi, Cristo Rei, Dili – ANC's technical regulator team, Eng. Fábio de Magalhães, Eng. Octávio Marques Freitas and Eng. Jacinto Fernandes, represented the ANC President at the handover and launch of the digital radio communication system at the Biter Lau-Fatuahi tower.
New technology means change. The digital radio system is a step to modernise communications in the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL). With support from the Timor-Leste Police Development Program (TLPDP), PNTL has built phase I of the digital radio system, which already covers 50% in some municipalities.
In a short speech on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Communications and the ANC President, Eng. Fábio de Magalhães introduced ANC as the independent regulator created by Decree-Law No. 15/2012 to regulate telecommunications, radio-communications, broadcasting and the Internet. Radio communication uses the radio-frequency spectrum, a national resource of Timor-Leste that must be well regulated so it benefits the economy efficiently. The move from analogue to digital brings real benefits to everyone, so on behalf of ANC he congratulated the Australian Federal Police, whose TLPDP programme provided the digital radio equipment to PNTL.
The Minister of the Interior, Francisco da Costa, the PNTL Commander-General, Commissioner Henrique da Costa, the Deputy Commander-General, Commissioner Pedro Belo, and municipal commanders attended.
