ANC receives a delegation from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)
The President of the ANC, Mr Flávio Cardoso Neves, and the Finance Administrator, Ms Georgina Emília da Silva Garcia, received a delegation from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at the ANC meeting room in Caicoli. This first meeting between ANC and MCMC is an important step to strengthen cooperation between the two national communications regulators. Mr Flávio Cardoso Neves said Timor-Leste continues its journey of digital transformation and integration into the ASEAN community, and this cooperation is a key priority as Timor-Leste prepares for its historic formal accession as the 11th member of ASEAN on 26 October 2025. "We see cooperation with MCMC as strategic and timely. Malaysia's experience and leadership in regulatory innovation, spectrum management, digital inclusion and regional cooperation offer valuable ideas for us as a young authority." The two sides shared views on their roles and regulatory frameworks and looked at areas of shared interest, especially enabling roaming services, developing special regional packages within ASEAN, and formalising cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MCMC and ANC. "Our current understanding is that an institutional MoU will be signed by the Governments of Timor-Leste and Malaysia. We will keep coordinating closely on the right time for an MoU between ANC and MCMC. We believe this partnership will let us learn from each other, improve cross-border cooperation and help build a more connected and digital Southeast Asia," the ANC President concluded. Also present were the Head of the MTC Office for Policy, Planning and Cooperation, Mr Fernando da Cruz, the ANC Consumer Protection Coordinator, Mr Názario Jerónimo, the ANC Head of Licensing, Mr Norberto Soares, and advisers.
