ANC and JICA hold a seminar to raise IT professionals' awareness of cybersecurity
Dili, 10 February 2025 – ANC and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a seminar called "Raising Awareness of Cybersecurity, the Landscape and the Role of IT Engineers" at the Pusat Budaya Indonesia hall, Dili. ANC Technical Administrator Mr Novelino dos Santos said the seminar aims to raise knowledge of cybersecurity as Timor-Leste's digital transformation grows. "We must be ready to face the challenges, with the technical skills to fight attacks, and help IT professionals better understand global cyber threats and their key role in keeping data and systems safe and defending the national interest." The seminar is part of ANC's work under the IX Government's policy to build a strong base for the challenges of the digital world, as protecting data and technology systems becomes more important for government and society. It aimed to raise participants' understanding of cybersecurity, especially protecting systems from outside threats, to encourage Timorese IT professionals to keep improving their skills so they can contribute to national technology development, and to build awareness of ethics and the responsible use of technology. Cybersecurity is not only a technical issue; it is also about economic sustainability and national stability. The seminar is one more step to prepare Timor-Leste to manage the challenges of the digital age while keeping ethics and social responsibility. JICA's support shows the importance of international cooperation in building Timor-Leste's technical capacity. Government institutions, the operators Telemor, Timor Telecom and Telkomcel, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and universities took part.
